Wouldn't be visiting HKG so, yes, getting back via AA DEL-ORD-SFO is probably a better option. JL via NRT as well. Both work out to about 9300 miles to keep my total under 20K. RJ DEL-AMM-ORD-SFO would put me over the limit though.
I forgot you have to get to SFO, therefore DEL-ORD-SFO would be attractive, unless you'd rather have CX or JL service along the way.
As seats are hard to get, I'd get book whatever is available. You can change dates later, but not routing or airline.
