Check in ID check (May I copy your driver's license #?)
In the last few months I've noticed a new part of the check in process. "Sir, may I see a photo ID?" My general response has been accomodating until I noticed that a desk clerk was entering my license number into the computer! I immediately objected and convinced the person to remove the data from their computer. This led to a big row with the manager, and only after making it clear that I would leave and not use my two rooms, he relented.
I've heard the following exuceses why the feel the need to have everything short of a DNA sample:
"It's for your security (Hampton Inn Tropicana, Las Vegas)"
"It's a state law (Nevada)" Yeah right"
"It's a municipal ordinance (Brookfield, WI)"
Not likely
As a HH Diamond member the hotel has so much data as it is I refuse to give them any more.
Has anyone else experienced this bold privacy invasion?
