My onsen and ryokan (japanese inn) experiences are in the Hakone/Mt. Fuji area, and in Gifu and Wakayama prefectures, however there are many near Tokyo including
those on the Izu peninsula, and in Gunma prefecture. I am not so familiar with those areas, however Izu peninsula and Hakone are not so far from Kamakura relative to the other areas I mentioned.
