However, the problem with the pitot tubes is loss of airspeed data - this is certainly a problem regardless of whether the data is fed through a computer. The incidents discussed in the article seem to show that the computerized systems do not prevent the pilots from resolving the situation safely - at least not directly and in such a categorical way as you seem to suggest.
