Thank you all for your insightful comments about the superpool/beach area. Looks like the Sheraton wins!

Now about the suite renovations... We are thinking of using points to do a Suite Upgrade at the Sheraton, but the only suite type available for upgrades is the smaller oceanfront one (875 sq. ft.) that is not recently renovated. Is it worth the extra 12,000 points for the Suite Upgrade on top of the 12,000 for the free night for this particular suite? We are Platinum but traveling during high peak season.
