One case scenario..for what it's worth.. Business reward seats YYZ-SYD for Jan-Feb 2010.. booked outbound on-line as soon as available which was after midnight..booked fictious SYD-YYZ as earlier in Dec whatever date I could find. Next step.. wait for actual return to open.. here was the problem.. the seats were available after midnight on-line..but I had to wait until 7am for the call centre to open so I could make the change.. by then the direct SYD-YYZ was gone..snagged by someone else during the night. I tried this for 5 days but was not successful in getting that particular flight. We had no problem however getting MEL-SIN-NRT (10 hr layover)-YYZ all business. Hope this helps.
