A few months ago I received a voice message from American Express on my office voicemail requesting that "Hans Schroeder" call them about his account. At the time I simply assumed that somewhere in some computer something got screwed up and didn't think anything more of it.
This week I started to receive the calls again at both my office and home for both "Hans Schroeder" and "Vera Lang." I had originally thought the calls were for me as I was in Germany and Lebanon last week and I suspected Amex wanted to verify the charges. When I answered my office line they asked for "Hans Schroeder" and seemed incredulous when I told them they had the wrong number. My wife answered my house phone, got the same treatment, then they asked if "Vera Lang" was there instead.
It has been my experience that Amex's customer service has dropped to dismal levels in the last year but I didn't think it was bad enough that they would call their customers randomly to ask for other customers.
This does lead to a serious concern on my part... It appears they've somehow mixed up my contact information with another customer(s). In this case I know my numbers are on at least one or (maybe) two other accounts. What about my accounts? The last time I knew for sure they had my information correct was about six months ago during the last round of senseless limit decreases.
Has anyone else had this experience with them?
