Actually, isn't that pretty much the reason for the 24-hour refund policy, so that in case you do make a mistake, you have time to correct it? Then your logic becomes incorrect.
However, if you want to take your above scenario, realize its a slippery slope. Take it further, and what happens when you purchase a mistake fare. In that case, AC should rescind/refund the ticket, and provide you with 1000 miles as compensation, and then if you want a new ticket, you can buy one at the intended price?
