Whatever the reason for his leaving -I wish him all the best. I guess it must be hard to resume flying at all after an incident like that: you'd keep running over it in your head, asking yourself if you'd done anything wrong! I recall Eric Moody making a comment like that when talking about his 747 losing all four engines, he said that his first reaction was something like "....! What have we done wrong?"
I hope the SFO continues with BA and equally, all of the crew, including the CSD (who looked very shaken (probably just nerves) at the press conference) stick with BA. I keep waiting for a BA flight where I get an "I'd like to add my personal welcome to that of the captain, my name is Sharron Eaton-Mercer and I'm the cabin service director..." -wouldn't say anything to her obviously: I'd just be interested to see what she's actually like!
