The short answer - in my case, at least - is yes! I just did it. I booked an award that has left my FB balance at around -1,500.

But maybe it's only allowed if there are flights booked in the account that will eventually cover the overdraft, as there are in my case. Otherwise, what would happen if you went into the red and then just 'ran away'?
