One thing you can do that might achieve the desired result is to unscrew the antenna. Some signal still leaks out and in, but the range is much reduced. If you choose to not use encryption (e.g., WPA2), this reduces the chance of neighbors using your signal.
I wouldn't recommend removing the antenna, in the long term, you run the risk of frying the transceiver.
