I just came back from Tokyo today.

We stayed one night at the Pen. We went cheap and went with the lowest available promotional rate. They gave us a 3 class upgrade. We're happy about the room. One thing about the FHR amenities of the Pen is that you canNOT use the USD200 dining credit at their Japanese restaurant there!! This was the main reason I didn't go with the FHR rate.

Then we stayed two nights at the Mandarin Oriental. (BOGO offer for Centurion cardholders). It was awesome too.

Comparing the two, the Pen seems to have a bit nicer rooms but I prefer the service of the MO better. And the rooms of the MO are all on high floors and you'd have a better view.

I stayed at the Park Hyatt in January. This hotel is awesome but it's further away from Ginza which is home to a lot of nicer restaurants.

I've also tried the Ritz last year. I love it too.

If you ask me to rank these 4 properties, I would say MO, Park Hyatt, Pen, Ritz. But this is just my personal preference based on my limited experience.

I think the newest luxury hotel in Tokyo is the Shangri-La. It's not an FHR property (yet). Can't wait to try it out.
