No, that's not only you. There are many people out there who haven't gone mad in the way that security is more important than citizen's rights.
One time I asked a (German) police officer who - in my opinion- was acting in an unfriendly und much more intimidating & aggressive ways than needed where it will end. As I suppose he and some secretaries of the interior are pulling out page after page from the constitution.
And after some years they will only defend an "empty" book cover. (In German you could impress by using the official "Freiheitlich demokratische Grundordnung" as it is referred to). Was not very delighted about this sentence but I didn't get any complaint.
So just keep the memory of human and civil rights and defend them were possible.
Had the same discussion of presenting a Photo ID or not for domestic Air Berlin flights some time ago....
