Ideas for EU hotel next to a sandy beach?
After our surprisingly pleasant week in Germany, we are looking for somewhere in Europe for September for our 18 month old.
As an 18 month old, she is not fussy. Her requirements, as far as I understand them, are immediate access to a sandy beach (max walk from hotel door - 120 seconds) where she can make sandcastles, and a variety of swimming pools, some of which must be indoor in case of bad weather. She also wants an evening buffet in the restaurant because her attention span whilst seated in a high chair is 15 minutes. She wants to stay in a suite with a fully-closed off bedroom so she can go to bed at 7pm without being disturbed by mummy and daddy watching a DVD, but this doesn't mean that she wants daddy to spend his bonus on an oversized and therefore overpriced suite for a week.
As parents, our concerns are limited to a direct flight from London, the shorter the better, and something suitably luxurious.
Obviously this is a difficult choice. I seem to have dismissed a wide range of places for what appear to be good reasons - FS Provence for no beach, Anassa because of reports that the beach is poor quality - at least for sandcastles - and concerns over the flight time, Nice due to beach, Cap Ferrat due to crazy pricing for a suite, Vila Vita / Formentor and others due to bad reviews, Hotel du Palais in Biarritz due to bad room reviews, the St Regis on Mallorca due to lack of direct beach access (and partially reviews of ludicrous in-resort pricing), The Atlantic in Jersey is unlikely to have great weather in late Sep and has only the Michelin-starred restaurant, the new Rocco Forte in Sicily due to lack of flights to Catania etc.
That said, I'm prepared to be corrected on any of the above! Any ideas that meet the requirements of my 18-month old for a September break are welcome!
