Apparently the farcical security screening at Flight Connections exists for domestic passengers because they aren’t segregated from international passengers post arrivals.
I also had the misfortune of using flight connections from EDI early July. We arrived shortly after 08:00hrs and there was probably about 50 other passengers already queuing at security. The queue hardly moved and it took about 15 minutes before we even reached the entrance of the security area. There was only one scanner being operated yet countless jobsworths standing around trying to look important. Perhaps some of these jobsworths are employed purely as trouble spotters, who’s function is just to lecture passengers?
Despite travelling with my young family, one of the numpties selected us for an additional search. This took forever as we had 2 cabin cases, laptop case, child’s backpack, wife’s handbag and a diaper backpack [mobile nursery & supplies]. It took us approximately 50 minutes to clear this farcical security operation.
This was my first ever experience of flight connections @ LGW as we usually exit arrivals, then use fast track back into departures. This route usually takes us no more than 15-20 minutes. Unfortunately we couldn’t use our preferred route to avoid flight connections on the outbound, as I was advised on arrival in LGW by a BAA supervisor that fast track was closed and departures was extremely busy [start of the British holiday season].
As you may be aware BAA [currently] own both Edinburgh and Gatwick, Heathrow and four other important UK airports. A competition commission ruling earlier this year ordered BAA to sell both Gatwick and Stansted, as well as either Edinburgh or Glasgow.
