I don't buy this. Who's in front of the 50k people? At AA, EXP's at 100k.
At DL/US/CO, anyone reaching 75k is at a higher status. Bottom line: a smaller percentage of flyers ranks in front of AA's PLT's.
If you're lucky enough to be at 25 or 50 level in an out of the way enough place to snag lots of upgrades, then "free" is the great way to go. If you're unlucky enough, "free" will make you wish for paid.
Come to think of it, there's no way to reasonably include US. their 50k flyers only get 50% bonuses.
