For that matter, I'd rather AA continue to charge plats for upgrades and continue to allow eVIP/miles upgrades on most published fares vs. going the DL way and allowing plat upgrades for free but requiring stupidly expensive tickets for international upgrades.
I'm going to agree with this one. As a PLT who may only barely eke out EXP by the end of the year, I haven't had a ton of flights that I really wished I could have upgraded but didn't for lack of stickers. If I really want it, I'll buy the stickers. But since I do most of my travel internationally, the question is moot. I much prefer the system of allowing eVIPs or mileage upgrades on almost any fare for the international flights.
Much is said of UA's E+, but I hardly ever have difficulty snagging an exit row - at least as good as E+. That is, perhaps, of benefit if you do more last-minute travel, which I don't.
I've thought about this a lot. In the last month I've flown DL and UA in domestic F. I'm sticking with AA.
