I actually did get the op up in the end and the BMI C was pretty good. They apparently upgraded the planes in May too. Unfortunately no such luck on the return leg and the AC broke down in Y causing a near riot amongst the Israeli passengers which the BMI crew did admirably to control despite virtually all of C being totally empty and everyone clambering to be upgraded in the effected section!

Also paid 300 to upgrade on air NZ to premium economy on way home to LAX from LHR which was very good and highly recommended.
