You can still keep your same routing...they won't force you to take a nonstop (although they may suggest and recommend it) and since you arrive earlier in the day there will be other options for you to fly IAD-BOS-ORD. But if later flights are full you'll just have to go standby. If that's OK with you they'll oblige but it becomes your risk if you get stranded along the way and don't make it all the way to ORD and have to overnight somewhere.
