As a former Preferred and now a Chairmans Club member, I have never been asked to show a Credit Card to anyone at an Avis pickup site. Neither have I ever had to enter a Credit Card on the AVIS website when making a reservation. In fact, as I recall, during the online reservation process, the site specifically states that no CC is needed to hold a reservation.

DHN did this to me once. I travel to small airports where there is no preferred service and occasionally someone will ask for a credit card. This maybe happened 2 times in 3 years. I can't remember what they did when I had a walkup rental last year.
