Pleasant Surpirse- Transatlantic upgrade
Yesterday, I was flying on a Delta ticket on Air France from CDG to BOS. I was on a T fare, so I knew there was no sense in even asking if I could use a PMU for an upgrade. (OT, have been a PM for 9 years, and have never used a PMU once- I have great hopes for the SMU program!)
Also, the plane was full, and they could not seem to find me a better seat than 46E, which was in the middle of the dreaded 2-4-2, near the back and the lavs. So I was bracing myself for a long 7 hrs.
Imagine my surprise when I got to the gate door, and the agent asked me if I was traveling alone. I was, as my wife had taken a flight back a few days earlier while I stayed back for work. She smiled and handed me a boarding pass for 3E, with basically no further explanation.
I was floored. I had not even asked for such a thing- having dealt with AF over the years, I have never gotten any kind of special recognition because of DL status, and a T fare is not winning anyone any friends. So the upgrade was a complete and unexpected surprise.
So today, I am a much happier traveler- as a 6'6" guy, I can say personally that Tempo is no treat for the big man. And I have a new appreciation for Air France and their treatment of DL platinums.
