When I was very very young - I recall that we had 707s that had ceiling projectors and the film sometimes used to unravel and woe betide whoever was sent to fix it.
I remember in Garuda Premium Economy in 2000 in a 747 UD after the dinner service a screen was unrolled at the front of the cabin and some sort of projector switched on at the back. Only drawback was having to either crawl under the screen to get to the loo or disrupt the film. This was the non-smoking PE cabin BTW.
