Bangkok hotels come up frequently in this forum and, of course, the Thailand forum, such as in this recent thread. Peninsula v. [Mandarin] Oriental is a frequently recurring debate here. There are also lots of trip reports on FT for Bangkok hotels. You will find a wealth of information here, although admittedly it may be difficult to find some of the resources since many threads will use non-searchable terms like "BKK" in the title.

Respectfully to bearbrick, I don't think this particular post adds much to the discussion:

re bangkok hotels ..if its an overnight trip there is really no point in staying in a hotel with all the trappings ...better off staying some where reasonable but nice ...eg the Pullman King power hotel ...[ i know , accor !!! ] - but slightly off the beaten track ...ie erawan area.

another hotel would be the Central World part of local chain centara hotels. that would put you right in the middle of all you need for the one day stopover.

peninsula is a no no

fourseasons ...nice public area but not mad about the rooms.

if you reallly insist on something " luxury " try out the Sukhothai - that is if you dont wanna leave the hotel at all !!!! or a nnice place to recover post bhutan

heard some good things about the new le meridien on suriwong road - but its not a suitable location for me.

have a great trip !
I think it all comes down to what KrazeeJoe or another traveler is looking for in an overnight stay. If you just want a comfortable place to crash and good food close at hand, then maybe you do want top-of-the-line luxury because you'll spend so much time (proportionally) in the hotel. If you'll be running around doing tourist things and shopping and eating out here or there or on the street, and you won't be spending much time at all in the hotel, then maybe you don't need a luxury place. Since KrazeeJoe posted in this forum, I take it he's looking for luxury. If you've got a late arrival and a morning departure, maybe all you really care about is the bed and any other preferred facilities (gym? spa? 24hr room service?) to help fight jet lag. If you're looking for all-night festivities, maybe you really want a place practically on top of Soi Nana or on Suriwongse. So, for these reasons, I disagree with bearbrick's premise that you're "better off staying some where reasonable but nice." I note, too, that many in this forum would not consider the Pullman King Power and Centara grand hotels luxury properties, especially not compared to what else is on offer in Bangkok.

Comments on Peninsula uninsightful. Comments on Four Seasons slightly less so.

I think what bearbrick's post does point up, is that KrazeeJoe might help us out by explaining more about what he's looking for on this particular overnight.
