Slightly off subject, but could impact the upgrade process as a whole:
Just read in this morning's paper an article about business travellers foregoing perks like premium cabin travel and airline clubs. Paid first & business class revenue is down 23%. It specifically mentioned Delta.
This part surprised me; premium class pax make up 7 to 10% of all pax, yet bring in 25 to 30% of the revenue. If that's down 23%, I wonder how that will trickle down to the upgrade process. Make it easier to get UG in the short term yet harder in the long term?
More demand for coach seats coupled with less demand for premium could result in one of 2 things; more aggressive marketing of premium seats (i.e. lower fares, which they've already done) or replacing some of those with coach seats.
I would think that either of these scenarios would make the answer to OP's question a qualified "no", as non-DL elites would basically not have a snowball's chance in hell of getting the UG.
