Maybe the Plaza management has been reading this thread, Earthman, and standards have improved. Glad to hear you had a near faultless stay.

Although I recommended the St Regis over The Plaza, neither make me jump up and down. I do however have an issue with the Plaza's room decor, probably because I am not a bloke.

Service wise-Excelent.It might be a fluke going on what I'd read here but they couldn't do enough for us.
The check in person could not have been more helpfull and friendly.
Service at the champagne bar for breakfast was instant, attentive and pleasant.
The room was a deluxe one [we didn't accept an offered upgrade but did accept a 4pm check out].
It was bigger than a similar category recently we had at the st Regis.
The bathroom was a little bit bigger than the Regis and the room had a coridoor and an alcove which doubled up as a study with the table for that and the phone and laptop port located there.
The TV was a HD one with a modern albeit slow electronic programme guide but with a large array of High definition channels [as opposed to standard definition].
Now I realise some of the design aspects of the place are gawdy but to be honest,I'm a bloke and tastes differ occasionally..

Just getting back to the service and without going into the details , we also had to ask for a particular requirement from the hotel during the stay which was in my opinion going above and beyond the call of duty and it was done to perfection.
The other thing I have to say is,I couldn't get over how comfortable the bed was.It was lush with an over supply of comfortable deep pillows.

Now I have to give this stay a 9 out of 10.I do realise that I cannot comment on the consistency of standards but they were top notch on this stay. It's probable obviously that consistency is not a winner going on some other reports but that said-It's rare to find even the highest end hotels [of which I wouldn't count this as supposed to be one] without blemishes in the trip advisor reports.
I don't go by trip advisor solely by a long shot but remember -Every customer is a customer. The Plaza definitely satisfied this one and to be honest,I wish the crew I had contact with the best and hope they emulate the performance a bit more.
