The fastest thing is to purchase some miles from united.com

You can buy 1,000 miles for less than $75

That will keep them from expiring. You will have to use your credit card to buy the miles of course.

Another cheaper option is the "Mileage Plus Mall" which you can access through United's website. I know iTunes music purchases made through the site will earn miles. The only downside to it is that it sometimes takes quite a while for the miles to post so if you are running out of time this is not a good option.
