This was never a hard benefit. Neither was the gifting of the next higher status level if you were X MQM short of the next status level.
If you need to travel this year and really don't want to cross the DM threshold, you can always credit your miles to CO or, after 24 Oct, to another Skyteam partner just so you don't go over 124,999 MQM. Maybe the orphaned miles could be used for something like magazines, etc.
