I think this will cut both ways. With the examples provided above, some pax will lose the incentive to fly more this year. With others (like me), I just got it back. I've already requalified for Plat, and was waiting to delay my next trips until after 1/1/10, since I'll never make Diamond and the extra MQMs would therefore be essentially worthless. Now I know that traveling this year will help me for next year, so that I'll have a cushion for what I expect will be a down travel year for work. In the end, I suspect I'll be halfway back to Plat for '11 before we even get to 1/1/10.^
+1. The two times I've made Plat (
the hard way, BIS!), I flew one rev flight after making Plat. There was no incentive to fly more, and I couldn't handle going to EEP for the SWUs (
which would have ben the only reason to fly the extra miles. The customer is going to look at this
very carefully, and fly/not-fly according to this process... this really empowers the customer. I was going to MR to Silver this year (
gift EMQs got me 1/2-way there), just for the few Elite benefits (
checked luggage, Elite line, etc), yet really see a benefit to flying to 49,999 in '09, then doing monster MRs in 01/10 for 100,001... instant Diamond until 02/12.
