Can someone help me understand these rollover MQMs? Over at DL's 2010 Medallion FAQ there is a table illustrating the rollover concept:
Code:
Example MQM Earned Elite Lvl Rollover
Member A 15,000 None None
Member B 26,000 25,000 1,000
Member C 73,000 50,000 23,000
Member D 200,000 125,000 75,000
So, I'm currently at 115,000 EQM and have 10,000 EQM of remaining travel on NW booked in 2009.

This is a big EQM year for me mainly due to several global projects and partly due to the triple EQM deal. I don't foresee this kind of travel in future; I typically come in around 75-85,000 EQM. What I don't earn through work-paid travel I usually come up with by mileage-running (rare) or just travel for the love of travel (typical).

So, for me this new benefit is a dilemma. I can:

(A) Fly my remaining travel. I make Diamond (which I don't really care about, it offers me nothing) in 2010 but carry over nothing into 2011, so I get dropped to base member.

OR

(B) Cancel my remaining travel. I requalify for Platinum in 2010 (I've already requalified), AND I can carry over 40,000 MQM into 2011 which means I'm only 35,000 MQM away from Platinum which is the level I care about making anyway.

Questions:
  1. Do I have this dilemma right? Have I forgotten or missed or misinterpreted something?
  2. Could one argue that this program is driving away 50,000 MQM of business: 10,000 MQM this year + 40,000 MQM next year?
I believe you have hit the nail on the head! You should cancel at least part of your remaining 10,000 miles of DL travel for 2009.

The people who designed this plan are idiots, for exactly the reasons you have described.
