Yeah the Outback Pioneer Lodge is the only reasonably priced place there. Stayed there in December and had a great time. Room was shared with 4 bunks (only one other lady in it), shared bathroom / showers akin to a camp ground.
Something you should check out, even if you don't stay there, is the buffet dinner - all kinds of local fun things (crocodile, emu, kangaroo, wallaby, camel, etc) and since it's a buffet you can try without worrying about if you'll like it. They have "normal" food too so you can always stuff your gills on comfort food after trying the rest
