When my sister and I stayed at PH Shanghai few months ago, we went to the restaurant for dinner. We were seated for 10 minutes then decided to go back to our suite and ordered room service. The noise level was intolerable.

We had a pretty bad experience in this restaurant. Place was packed on a Sunday early evening. Very very loud environment (music is very loud and since the ceiling is very high there is a certain hall effect in there). We made reservation for 'special occasion' (anniversary) and were told that only Pudong view (ie not to the historic river side) would be available. We took it. Upon arrival we were seated in the middle of the room away from the windows right next to the place where the waiters hand over the dishes arriving from the kitchen. No privacy at all.
You have to ask for the extra Sushi menue? They have 4 sushi chefs doing nothing the whole evening! No wonder. We decided to go for steak anyway. The waiter claimed they did not have any sauce to add to it (black pepper anyone?), when we expressed our disappointment about the fact they managed to convince the chef to produce a mediocre sauce bernaise for us. Tenderloin was good. Sirloin was just 'ok' (not worth the price IMHO)
Selection of wine by the glass is good.
Oysters were good.
We wanted to test the dessert but the portions are designed to feed a table of 4+ pax. Really big dishes. No way the two of us could manage to eat one - even when sharing. We gave it a pass.
Conclusion:
We paid 2000+ RMB for a sub-standard dinner for two.
We'll not come back. There are much better dinner places in Shanghai.
(Stiller's at the new Cool Docks or Steakhouse in FS Shanghai if you need a very good steak. Stillers has a good view to the Bund from a different angle - you will need a reservation)
