Austria: Ski Resort recommendations

Hi all

Hoping some FTers more experienced with the skiing in Austria might be able to make some recommendations.

We are a family of 3. Mrs AN*G and myself are what you'd classify nervous intermediates. We can handle the red runs, but at a cautious pace. Mrs AN*G parallels well at slow speed, whilst I can parallel at slow speed but usually get too bored with it and try to go faster with predictable results involving snow and my body. Master 6 is a confident red run skiier, and parallels well. He's got the carving technique right, but doesn't quite have the body weight to do it justice.

This coming January (2010), we're planning to head over again to Austria for 5-7 days of skiing. In January 2009, we skiied at Fiss, which was quite good, and certainly a place we'd return to one year. But, we wanted to try somewhere else first.

Why Austria? Mrs AN*G and Master 6 have basic German, so it makes things a little more comfortable for us.

What would be ideal:

- A good, family oriented place, which is reasonably safe for children (we have agreed stopping/meeting points along the runs, so Master 6 can go ahead and wait for us at the next point)

- Decent accommodation, hotel style (4* type standard), ski-in, ski-out is preferred, but not essential if there are ski lockers/depots at the base

- A good ski school/selection of instructors who speak English. We tend to hire one instructor for private lessons for the family for the first 3 or 4 days, then head out on our own

- A good selection of blue and red runs, including some nice long ones.

- Cable cars/gondolas make it easier with Master 6, as he is still a bit too short to get on the chairlifts without the attendant's help

- An easy drive from some major town - we're not keen on 3 hours of twisty, steep alpine roads, but an hour drive from SZG or INN is great.

- Reasonably priced

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I'd be most appreciative of them.
