Yeah, I'm not really sure what the issue is with this one. I also travel every week, and am only home on weekends - this type of stuff is just par for the course unfortunately. Mechanicals happen, and it sounds like they did what they could to accommodate you, even rerouting you on a much more expensive direct flight home. I usually take that as a bonus, not an opportunity to try and get a refund on the extra taxes. I'd much rather be safe, and late- than on a plane with a potential mechanical issue.
