I have traveled extensively with this stroller in Y, F, and J. I have had mixed luck with bringing it on board. My plan A on larger aircraft is always to bring it on board- I stow it in the overhead. I never thought of putting it in the closet and I don't usually mention that it is a stroller- why is it any different than any other roller bag or duffle? My plan B is to gate check it, if need be on smaller planes, fuller flights, or in the most recent case- with difficult FAs who insist that toddlers with purchased seats cannot have a carry-on. (See the Delta forum for more on that )

I have had mixed success with getting it back at the gate. Being in the bag it looks more like a suitcase than a stroller, so on occassion the ground crew have mistakenly missed it upon arrival- meaning that it comes out on the carousel. Make sure that you get the appropriate tag for it so that it is marked to be returned at the gate- usually pink NOT GREEN on DL and NW (not sure about UA). If you gate check it, I recommend unclipping the sun shade as there are plastic pieces that protrude and could break off, when the shade is engaged.

My preference, but I usually do not fold it until I get to the end of the jetway as it keeps the toddler contained and my hands somewhat free. I have been challenged by zealous gate agents- sometimes I just take the gate check tag and thank them (whether or not I use it will be my decision later on), other times, particularly when flying in J (and I know that the overhead bins will not be full), I have challenged them. They usually ask me to prove it by folding it up. This is actually fun as I get to see the shocked look on their face when they see the compact fold.

Most recently we folded it ahead of time and the gate agent literally refused to issue a gate check tag as they stated that "there is no reason you cannot bring that aboard."

A couple of notes about traveling with this stroller:
  • the sunshade is fairly small- I purchased an after market add-on when we traveled to the tropics
  • you have to fold it to go through security screening- so generally I bring it in its bag and then only use it after screening (depends on the airport and how far screening is- MSP, MKE, HNL yes, ATL-no
  • it has no recline (so not appropriate for under 6 mos.), no cupholder and a teeny basket. I am actually considering the Mia Moda Evolution (One step ahead has it on sale for $119 and there is free shipping code- PM me if interested) because it is more compact (it actually fits the carry on requirements) and has some of these other features- AND you can remove the basket with the stuff in it when folding.
  • It is VERY tippy if you try to hang a bag on the back of it (which is explicity mentioned in the manual as a no-no, though with the small basket you may be tempted) and isn't very easy to steer one handed in urban settings (It works fine one handed on the slick airport floors)
  • You have to take the wheels off for it to fit in the bag- though I was interested by another post by someone saying you only need to take the front wheels off. I am going to try that!!! The need to take the wheels off is a pretty big deal (it gets tiring to take them off and put them on multiple times, you have to find a place to lay it all out, etc, etc) and I wish I had known that before I purchased. Once Toddler Cellistoo gets out of the stroller, I have only a few seconds before she starts to run away. This is especially hard when I travel alone with her. The mia moda can fit in the bag without removing the wheels....
