Hey all, myself and Mrs Ed are booked to fly LHR - SFO on 28th August, returning PHX - LHR on the 12th of September.
Flight is all booked and paid for on Amex card (taxes at least) and paid for using miles and my 2-4-1 companion voucher.
If (god forbid) myself or Mrs Ed were unable to fly due to swine flu (or otherwise for that matter) how is this handled.
I know that I could cancel my flights and the voucher and miles will be re-credited back to my account, however the voucher will expire just 4 weeks after I would have travelled and the chance of finding more reward flights that I can actually take is minimal.
The cash fare for these flights (CW out, F back) is circa £9188 outbound and £12000 return (exact figures don't matter, point is they're big figures).
How is this handled by travel insurance - is anyone aware of any travel insurance that would cover these flights at 'face value'. I have tried speaking to AMEX who were totally useless - I'm not even sure they understood the question nor the products that they sell.
Ultimatley I would expect a product to cover either the loss of the voucher (ie from AMEX they would extend the voucher) or cover the cost of booking those cancelled flights at 'market value'.
Worried that I could be totally exposed without any insurance and the loss of my companion vouchers all-together
Thoughts gladly appreciated all !
Ed
