I prefer to buy miles from AA by flying; this spring, 25,000 miles could be had for about $200 by flying LAX-BOS and back. THAT was worth it. Paying two cents each? Less attractive, but if you can get the award seats you want, it can be cheaper than buying revenue tickets.
