Yeah, you might not get a seat when you need one. FF tickets are not always easy to come by.

My rule is to never pay more for something to get miles (I've slipped a few times, usually to some later regret). Also, never pay out cash for miles, just get them as incidental to purchases.

IMHO, buying miles is not a good idea.
