Hampton Times Sq South - NYC Trip Reports and Reviews

I stayed there for 2 nights last week the day after it opened. There still seems to be a lot of activity going on in terms of getting it up and running, and they are a bit disorganised, but nothing that impacted my stay in any way.

I didn't poke around very much (and didn't have breakfast) so my observations are based on my room only. I had a lower floor and was surprised that there were only 6 rooms on my floor. Since there are only 2 elevators, and the hotel is quite tall, I could forsee some annoying waits. The lobby location of the elevator is in a little hallway between front desk and breakfast service area and gets pretty jammed up.

Room was fairly small, not unusual for New York though. King size bed, 2 end tables and a little chair pretty much filled the room. Also has a small wardrobe and small desk. You can fit your computer on the desk and not much else, especially since the single serve coffee maker is there. Flat panel TV with lots of channels and a little padded luggage rack finish off the room. Bathroom was small but efficient...but nowhere to really put your shaving kit...unless you are ok with putting it on back of toilet. Shower is slightly larger than normal with glass sliding doors. No tub in my room, but I'm not British so that didn't impact me. Also found Grab bar in shower to be inconveniently placed, as the bruise on my elbow can confirm. For some reason my shower didn't turn past half way so water was a little cold, but I didn't mind. Probably should have called about it, but in addition to liking cool showers, I'm also lazy. Final note on room was that the AC unit was quite loud, so I didn't notice any street noise at all. If you have an issue with noise, your problem here is not street traffic, or construction noise from next door, but the unit that keeps you cool on a hot summer night. That being said, 39th didn't seem very busy at all with traffic.

The area around the hotel is definitely in transition (huge construction site next door) but I didn't find it to be sketchy at all. There are 4 hotels on the same side of the block, so there is lots of tourist type traffic. 8th Ave is just down the street and has lots of shops/services/food. The 9th Ave side is a little grim, but improves immensely once you go north a couple of blocks. All in all, no issues here with area surrounding hotel.

This hotel has been added to my list of options for when I need to be in NYC for business. At the right price, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there agin.
