I once had an AA issued paper ticket reissued as an e-ticket by AA, and it was a multi-hour ordeal. (When it happened, I wrote about it on FT in another thread.) While they were perfectly willing to do it, they really didn't know how. I was left with the impression that xONEx tix are relatively rare at AA ticket counters, and precious few people (in this case, not even the tarriff desk) really know what to do with them when anything more than accepting them for flight is required.
