For my first-ever trip to Australia earlier this month, I had originally booked Westin Sydney. After reading rave reviews about SOTP's Executive Club Lounge, I cancelled Westin and booked at SOTP instead.

Check-in agent was cold and unwelcoming. Is it too much to expect at least a smile? She looked like she was forced to be there.
I did receive a small upgrade from a city-view to park-view room, for which I am grateful.
She did not offer any Platinum Amenity, so I had to ask. One of their "local" amenity gifts is a stuffed Emu.

The Executive Lounge was indeed nice with great views. I enjoyed having breakfast there daily, and the servers were pleasant and attentive.

On the morning of Check-out I didn't receive a final bill folio under the door, so I had to request it at the front desk.
Found some extra charges on my bill:
- Mini-bar - "Half bottle of wine" - I never touch anything from mini-bars in hotels.
- 3 days of valet parking at AUD$40+ per day - I rented a car for one day and parked it at the hotel only one night out of my 4-night stay.
I protested all of these charges, and she removed them from the bill. Same person who checked me in... same *blah* attitude.
Now, I understand that mistakes do happen, and not all hotel workers can be cheerful all the time. But if you're going to work there, at least make an effort to be at least somewhat hospitable.

While I did like my room, the lounge, and the location of SOTP, there were enough negatives to leave an overall bad taste in my mouth. Next time I will opt for the Westin.

Incidentally, I had friends who were also vacationing in Sydney at the same time. They stayed at the Westin and Swissotel. When we visited those hotels, I actually felt more welcome there even as a non-guest, than at the SOTP.
