I’m going to piggy back on this thread with a report of our recent award stay at the sister resort Squaw Peak.

I reserved as a Diamond for my wife and two daughters and requested an upgrade to the 2 bedroom Casita thru the Diamond Desk. I confirmed via email shortly before our arrival and was promised everything was set.

Check-in: Arrived late afternoon and check in was quick and efficient. Water bottles and breakfast coupons were offered along with the keys and the Resort Fee option of $9.00 per day. (I had some issues with this that I will go into later). The front desk did not offer directions to the Casita, but the bellman provided me with a map.

The Casita. A little confusing finding our unit, as they are arranged as a Quad unit and the number signage was not clear. Found our unit, but someone was parked down the middle in two parking spaces. So I parked at the curb. The unit was a two-story with the lower level containing a small kitchen ( fridge, microwave, and counter space with bar stools), a dining table for 4 with two couches and a ˝ bath. Upstairs had a 2 queen room with a full bath and a locked door to where I assumed the King room would be. After twenty rings the front desk answered and explained that the other side of our Casita had to be accessed from outside (a different room number) and then we could open the common door. Not a big deal but it would have been nice to explain that at the front desk. The King room was about the size of a small hotel room but all considered we ended up with plenty of space and 3 TV’s but with limited channels. The rooms were clean and although slightly dated, it was all in good repair. Maid service was thorough and extra towels and pillows were quickly provided.

The Lazy River Ranch: The weather was not our friend, and we only had two days to take full advantage of the pool area. Arriving from the East Coast, we were up early and were able to find lounge chairs and a table to camp out for the day. The resort fee of $9.00 covers the mini golf, tennis and the exercise room. Ala carte prices for the golf alone were $5.00 per person. We signed up for the resort fee at the pool check-in.. The Lazy River has been detailed in other reports, but suffice to say it was ideal for a couple of kids who experienced more winter than they wanted to. Poolside service was great and we skipped the food and opted for beverages.

The Hole in the Wall and Lantana Grille: These were the two restaurants that we used for our breakfast coupons. The Hole in the Wall has a western theme and overlooks the pool area. As a diamond, this was a great value. Each coupon was worth about $8.50 and with the kids menu topping out at $4.00 we were able to eat whatever we wanted well within the credit. The food and service was fine.

Check-out: The bill included some lounge charges and the resort fee for all 6 days. I questioned the charge as it had been explained as a daily fee that we could pick and choose when to opt for it. The clerk took off 4 days without a problem.

I agree with yyzflyer that the resort was a good value for 100k points, but at 175k I might look elsewhere. We didn’t really feel that it was a “resort” as it was surrounded by office complexes and not really a “destination”. For a late winter break it was fine, but my opinion was probably dampened by 3 days of rain.
