If you buy for a third party on ba.com and check the box that indicates that the cardholder is not travelling on the payment screen then no card is required, even if using SSCI or a checkin desk at the airport.

However, if the cardholder is travelling then the card is required outbound for SSCI and IME if you check in at an airport checkin desk.

The card is not required in any case if you PYOBP, but N.B. below
