If they OLCI and print their boarding passes then no need to produce any card. On the return if they can't print their BPs they should be fine, I've only been asked for the payment card on the outbound trip. (EC card is not always sufficient).

If they want to collect their BP from an airport desk or use a SSCI machine they will need to prove payment unless you of course selected the check box when you purchased the tickets saying "Payment Card Holder not travelling" (or similar) ......
