A few weeks ago, my SFO-JFK redeye flight was initially delayed by about 4 hours because the inbound aircraft was late due to bad weather in the east coast. This delay was known 5+ hours before departure and I was called and informed about the rescheduled departure time. A few hours later, the flight was delayed by an additional 2.5 hours for operational reasons -- probably lack of airport and gate staff, TSA, etc. I received another call to inform me about the rescheduled departure time.
I did not complain, however, a few days later I got an email stating that safety will always take priority over on-time departure, etc, and they are giving me 15000 miles as a gesture of goodwill, etc.
