CE Catering - Is this acceptable?

I recently did the final LGW flight of the day to AGP in CE. As I had been at work all day and had limited chance to grab anything other than a sandwich, I fully excepted the food on this flight this to be my main meal.

As a GCH, I was in 2A on a 734 (selected for months before the flight). There was no 1A-1C. On boarding the plane, i found that another passenger was sat next to me in 2C in a fairly empty CE cabin. No-one was there the night before. Casually looking at his BP, I noticed that he had no status - £59 upgrade?

Before take off, he reseated himself to 1F.

Meal service began and Mr. 1F and the person sat in 2D were offered choices before me. By my turn, 2A in a 734, I am offered a choice of salmon pasta or salmon salad. "But I don't eat fish" was my comment in horror. "What are they eating?" "Chicken Teriaky" was the response, "but we only had limited quantities loaded!"

I don't expect all the choices all of the time, but this meant that I did not have anything to eat for the whole flight. I have complained to BAEC (I know the standard letter about them not being able to guarantee meal choices), as this to me on a band 3 flight so soon into service, this is totally unacceptable. BAEC have not even replied.

I suspect that this limited loading of meal choices is an attempt to make further savings on CE catering. I cannot however understand why BA want to upset regular customers in this way.

My response has been simply to order Kosher special meals for my next 8 CE flights so that I know what I'll get. (I'm not Jewish, but they are far suprior to the regular CE meals, especially extended breakfast or afternoon tea). Is this what BA wants customers to do, as I thought that special meals cost far more than the regular offering?

On my return flight, my four-course kosher special meal was served with much attention to detail, a lot of which was wasted on me, but the food was also far better in quality and quantity terms than most CE food offerings.

Should I just accept that I personally (not my employer) will pay a premium for a CE flight, yet have nothing to eat; or am I rightly annoyed and now costing BA a lot of money for special meals?
