Many years ago I saw a Shinto priest blessing an escalator in Nakano Sun Mall early in the morning before most of the stores were open. When I asked why they were doing that, a member of the group attending in the blessing explained that there had been a lot of mishaps on the escalator, so the managers of the mall were trying to ensure that no more accidents would occur.
