More likely to have a flight canceled when major airports are weather impacted, capacity is limited, and ATC needs to make decisions about whether to let a real (i.e., big) jet fly vs letting a smaller capacity tin can fly. I understand that smaller airports that just barely support the need for an airline may have to put up with regional jest service... and I fly into a number of them.

But I have a hard time understanding the "need" for regional jets between major airports and, for that matter, having to pay the same fare for an RJ that I would have to pay for a mainline jet on the same route... and ending up with less comfort, convenience, and (potentially) safety.
Points well taken... I would guess that they are preparing for CO to start adding more flights to the market (and subsequently DL will draw it down) with the impending breakup.
