Contrary to the OPs report, I find Jimb.'s physical plant to be in fine order. The density of the villas is a problem here of course. I was interested to read in Sharp's book that the resort was designed as a Regent and was under construction during the FS' buy-out/merger. Although that is no excuse, it may explain some of the differences in ambiance vs. that of the smaller Sayan property that was constructed as an FS.
The service is spotty. Examples include an hour plus wait for just a cold dessert via villa service with no attempt at recovery, beach attendants absent for 30-45 minutes, unacceptable levels of language barriers (waitstaff should know the menus they are serving; there is no excuse for that. It's not as if we were asking for something special that they may not be familiar with), concierges with no clue on how much a cab costs to Kuta or Denpasar proper. These are all minor issues, but they add up to make me mark the property down for its service.
FYI...I am writing this post from Jimb on my outdoor breakfast table watching the sun rise out over the island. : )
Enjoy your break! I hope the service picks up from now.
