Thanks so much for all the suggestions and answers so far. It seems that the policies are less restrictive than what I was fearing.

I will look at Carnival in particular and also check out the forum that was recommended.

The most important thing is really to be able to smoke outside, be it on the deck or on my balcony. I can smoke inside the house all I want at home. But outside and with the salty air it just tastes better. Obviously, I wouldn't want to sit in a totally step-motherly spot where smokers are punished for being smokers. But I don't want to have to deal with militant anti-smokers, either, and I don't want to offend tolerant non-smokers. Keeping in mind that the ship is on the open sea (there is no wider open space), there is wind and the ship is moving, there should be minimal if any discomfort caused to anyone.
