I stayed at a new Hampton (Dayton Airport) the day after it opened. A few small glitches mostly involving room equipment (no carafe, missing lightbulb etc.), but everything important worked just fine. No construction, just some landscaping not finished.

I'd hope they treat NYC as a bit more important PR-wise than DAY, so I wouldn't be concerned.
